You certainly don’t need to watch (or care) about BBC programming to enjoy this craft. These are sold in craft and hobby stores. They are usually sold to be used in a preset pegged design and then fused together by passing an iron over it. I also wanted to have better control of the dark areas: I decided I’d use Perler beads there. It’s here: ) I also thought there had to be a way to make the pony bead version look more interesting (the colors in the original were very plain in the sunlight). I saw the original starry night pony bead sun-catcher and I said to myself: this just needs a TARDIS (Doctor Who reference) and it would be perfect! (I had seen a starry night painting online with the TARDIS in it before. It definitely affected my sense of humor! To celebrate my inner nerd (Who am I kidding? I’m all nerd!) I did a bunch of Doctor Who themed crafts for the season premier, this being one of them. I would hand tune my TV dial to PBS and watch everything BBC as often as I could. (This seems like a random admission at this point, but keep reading.) I love BBC programing and I have since I was a kid. So, now I am going to come out of the closet and admit to being a Doctor Who fan. You can find it here: Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I also like a challenge and since I saw a pony bead version of Van Gogh’s Starry Night on Pinterest I figured I could do that as my grown-up craft. I bought two big bags of pony beads and then separated them by color and put them into sandwich bags. If you want a stained glass look: make sure you use translucent beads. On one of my visits to Pinterest I saw some melted pony bead crafts and I thought it would be fun to do them with my kids. ![]() I don’t do it often because it’s like going to an all you can eat buffet: I think I can eat (or do) way more than reality will allow me to. The link it directs to is the same I had so the link does not work.Every once in a while I end up on Pinterest. Edited: the pattern is no longer available on the Making Friends site. The link it directs to is the same I had so the link does not work. We first tried it with cording but switched to wire which gave the design more support. In the future I would like to work on advanced pony bead projects with him. I enjoyed spending time with my nephew while working on these projects. These three projects are very easy, there are no additional loops, just straight lines. Eventually we figured out that it was easier when we worked together to pull the strings/wire and to have my hand on the already completed lines of beads. When we started the project I just watched him string on the beads (somewhat boring for me). This was my first time working with pony beads that I remember. ![]() For his last birthday he asked for pony beads and we gave him some. My 11 year old nephew remarked that he would like to make something with pony beads. For other patterns go here.Īwhile ago I asked my nieces and nephews if they had an idea of a craft we could do together for my blog. For the Smile Face and Ladybug, you should still be able to make these projects using my images and new links provided if you have some patience and knowledge of making pony bead projects. I now link to a watermelon pattern on another site. ![]() Edited: The links I previously shared to the making friends website are no longer available.
